Student Success Statement #8

"What you are as a person is far more important than what you are as a basketball person"-John Wooden

The statement "What you are as a person is far more important than what you are as a basketball person" is explaining that you have to be a good person. John Wooden told this to his team because he didn't care much about winning but about his team being the best people they can be. If you are in a sport and you are always winning but you aren't a good person you will feel good at the moment but as you still decide to choose the wrong you will never always feel good. John Wooden was a great coach. Not because his team won so many games but because everyday he encouraged them to be a CTR person. He cared more about them being good people than to be a good basketball person. In my opinion he was a great coach.
